A Night Among the Treetops - The Magic of Kristiansand Treetop Cabins

Some places make you slow down even before you’ve unpacked your bag. Kristiansand Treetop Cabins is one of those places.

Just a short drive from Kristiansand city centre, by the beautiful Trobbevann lake in Nodeland, you’ll find an experience that combines adventure, nature, and stillness. Here, you get the chance to spend the night several metres above the ground, surrounded by tall pine trees, birdsong, and the quiet rhythm of the forest.

There is something special about walking the final stretch through the woods. Everyday life slowly fades away with each step. Mobile notifications, deadlines, and obligations lose their grip as nature takes over. Suddenly, the cabin appears between the trees – like something out of a fairytale.

The cabin “Kvisten” is built high among the treetops, offering the feeling of being part of nature itself. Large windows let in natural light and open up views of the surrounding forest, while the wood-burning stove creates a warm and cosy atmosphere. Here, you can sit with a cup of coffee and watch the morning mist rise from the lake, or enjoy the evening around the fire pit as darkness settles over the forest.

One of the most memorable parts of the stay is the contrast between heat and cold. The wood-fired sauna offers deep warmth after a day outside, and just a few steps away, the lake invites you to try cold-water bathing. That sharp, refreshing dip into Trobbevann makes the silence feel even clearer, the body more awake, and the mind completely reset.

For those who want activity, there are plenty of options. Canoes included with the cabin give you access to peaceful paddling on Trobbevann. You might spot the beaver that lives in the area, or see birds of prey circling above the treetops. There are also great opportunities for fishing, swimming, and beautiful hikes in the surrounding forest.

Still, it is perhaps the silence that is the greatest attraction. The rare feeling of being fully present in the moment. No noise, no queues, no rush. Just nature, fresh air, and time for meaningful conversations.

Sharing this experience with my mother made it even more special. It was incredibly joyful to see her have her very first treetop cabin experience here - a moment of wonder, laughter, and presence that made the stay feel even more meaningful.
